After the formation of five reform commissions, the cabinet department has issued a notification officially forming the ‘Constitution Reform Commission’ with the names of the members. Through this, six commissions announced as chief advisors were formed and its official journey began.
Today, on Monday, the Constitution Reform Commission has been constituted and a notification has been issued.
Professor Ali Riaz is the head of the Constitution Reform Commission. And eight members are Dhaka University Law Department Professor Sumaiya Khair and Professor Muhammad Ikramul Haque, Barrister Imran Siddiqui, Supreme Court Lawyer Sharif Bhuiyan, Barrister M Moin Alam Ferozi, writer Feroze Ahmed, writer and human rights activist Md. Mustain Billah and students are as representatives. Mahfuz Alam.
The Commission will prepare a report within 90 days and submit it to the Chief Adviser.
According to the notification, the office of the commission will be decided by the government. The head and members of the commission will receive official rank, salary or honorarium and privileges as determined by the government. However, Chief Adviser may approve if one wishes to perform duties as unpaid or not to accept benefits. The Department of Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs will provide secretarial support to this Commission.
Before this, the chief adviser. In his address to the nation on September 11, Muhammad Yunus announced the formation of six commissions for reforms in electoral system, police, judiciary, public administration, constitution and anti-corruption. Later on last Thursday, apart from the Constitution Reform Commission, the remaining five commissions were formed and a notification was issued. Among them Badiul Alam Majumdar is the head of the Electoral System Reform Commission, Safar Raj Hossain is the head of the Police Reform Commission, Justice Shah Abu Naeem Mominur Rahman is the head of the Judicial Reform Commission, Iftekharuzzaman is the head of the Anti-Corruption Reform Commission, and Abdul Mueed Chowdhury is the head of the Public Administration Reform Commission.
The name of prominent lawyer Shahdeen Malik was first announced as the head of the Constitution Reform Commission, but later it was changed and Professor Ali Riaz was given the responsibility.
