Recently, a lot of discussions have been noticed on social media about the statement that the interim government’s chief advisor Muhammad Yunus has pressed the ‘reset button’. A circle started spreading confusion to take his statement in a different direction.
Taapsee Tabassum Urmi, Executive Magistrate of Lalmonirhat District Commissioner’s Office, has come to discuss the matter by posting on Facebook. In this incident, he was first OSD and later suspended. Since then a new dimension has been added to the discussion on the matter. Finally the press wing of the chief advisor has clarified the reset button issue.
Explaining the pressing of the reset button, a statement from the press wing said that when Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus talked about pressing the reset button, he was talking about a new beginning from corrupt politics. Because the previous regime destroyed all the important institutions of Bangladesh, pushed the economy to the brink of collapse and took away voting rights and civil liberties. He did not use this word in the sense of erasing the millions of martyrs and the proud history of Bangladesh.

The statement also mentioned that some people are misinterpreting Professor Muhammad Yunus’ recent interview with Voice of America.
After arriving in Dhaka on August 8 to take charge as the chief advisor of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus told reporters at the Hazrat Shahjalal Airport that the July-August student-led popular uprising was our second independence – the first independence was the country’s glorious independence war in 1971.
Professor Yunus was an assistant professor at Middle Tennessee State University. He formed the Bangladesh Citizens Committee immediately after independence. Which later led to a US-wide campaign to convince the US government to recognize Bangladesh. He published the Bangladesh News Letter to inform the world about the massacres committed by the Pakistani army in Bangladesh.
Earlier on Wednesday, the special assistant of the chief adviser explained the reset button. Mahfuz Alam. He said, “Reset button is what Sir (Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus) said – that is ‘system’. It is not 71 by any means, it is not a liberation war by any means.
