Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken refuge in India after resigning from the post of Prime Minister amid huge public outcry on August 5. Since his departure, Awami League leaders-MP-ministers and officials at various levels of the law and order forces have covered their backs. Many are being arrested again.
It has been reported that the concerned police officer Monirul Islam has left the country and gone to India. It was also reported that he was spotted at a shop in Delhi. But that news was lied by Monirul himself.
Monirul Islam, the former head of Special Branch (SB) of Police, said that he came back from his official residence in Ramna area on Sunday (October 13). On Monday (October 14), a reporter of Yamuna Television told this information about this former police officer.
In response to the recent discussion that he has gone to India, Monirul Islam said that he could not go anywhere because his passport was cancelled, he is in the country. This once influential police officer said that he is willing to surrender if the case is properly investigated after August 5.
This former officer has worked in the DMP branch of the police for more than 15 years. Being the spokesperson of DMP, he was a popular face in the media. He became the head of the SB branch in 2021.
After the change of power on August 5, the top police officials were arrested, but this police officer shared his position on social media among the discussed officials. Since then, he has been seen to be active on Facebook regularly.
Recently some of his pictures were spread in the media. It is claimed that he is shopping in a store in India. Soon after the news spread in the media, police officer Monirul Islam went to Delhi.
Where is he?
When contacted, Monirul Islam said, I could not enter Ramna’s house yesterday (Sunday). I only saw it from the road. I have been living in this house for a long time. But I could not enter the house.
Regarding the Delhi film, Monirul Islam said, I went to Maldives in March 2022 and then stayed in Delhi for two days.
Why are you not surrendering even if you claim to be in the country? In response to such a question, Monirul said that the militants are planning to kill me. I can be arrested at any moment. I think so. Agreed to be arrested if involved in fair investigation and professional investigation. I will also consider surrendering.
It should be noted that the former Additional IGP of Police and Head of Special Branch (SB) Monirul Islam fled the country to Delhi, the capital of India on October 6 of this month. The police officer was accused of bringing Tk 25 crore from the Prime Minister’s office in the name of suppressing the anti-discrimination student movement around the quota reform.
