At least 100 killed in oil tanker explosion in Nigeria

An oil tanker explosion in Nigeria has killed around 100 people. At least 50 people were injured in this terrible accident. According to the police, in a statement on Wednesday (October 16), the incident took place in the northern part of the country.

Lawan Shisu Adam, the country’s police spokesman, said the explosion occurred late on Tuesday when an oil tanker overturned while collecting spilled oil on the side of the road in northern Jigawa state. While collecting this oil, the locals suffered an explosion.

So far 94 deaths have been reported. Many of the 50 injured are in critical condition. Doctors said the death toll may exceed 100.

Such an accident happened last month too. At least 48 people were killed in an explosion after a truck collided with a fuel tanker in Nigeria’s Niger state. Fatalities are frequent in truck accidents on major roads in Nigeria.
