Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, senior joint general secretary of BNP, said that proportional election system will create complications for the country and through this, anti-independence forces will be supported. He urged the interim government and said, “You should not create any complications in a well-planned manner.”
Rizvi said these things while speaking as the chief guest at an event organized by ‘Amra BNP Parivar’ at Morjal Bus Stand in Raipura Upazila of Narsingdi on Thursday (August 17). He made this comment at a ceremony to offer condolences and financial assistance to the families of those killed in the anti-discrimination student movement.
Rizvi said, ‘Our society is not yet ready for proportional election system. This approach will create complications and thereby benefit the anti-libertarians. If a new system is to be introduced, it should be in accordance with the society and people’s desire.
He also said, ‘This system was introduced in Nepal and a random situation was created. Many in civil society are talking about this, but it will further weaken the electoral system. It will take 5-10 years to understand the proportional election system.

BNP Joint Secretary General and Narsingdi District BNP Convener Khairul Kabir Khokon, Member Secretary Manjur Elahi and Central BNP Information, Science and Technology Associate Editor Ashraf Uddin Bakul and others were also present.
