The Interim Government’s Advisory Council has approved the list of public holidays for 2025. There will be 26 days holiday next year as per general and executive orders. Out of this, 9 days fall on weekends (5 Fridays and 4 Saturdays).
Thursday (October 17) Tejgaon Chief Advisor Dr. The list of holidays was approved in the advisory council meeting held under the chairmanship of Muhammad Yunus. The matter was later confirmed from the Chief Adviser’s press wing.
The list of authorized holidays shows that 12 days of general holidays and 14 days of executive order holidays have been declared, which is 4 days more than last year. It is particularly noteworthy that 6 days of Eid-ul-Azha holidays and 5 days of Eid-ul-Fitr holidays have been fixed. Out of this, there will be one day of general holiday on two Eids, and the rest of the days have been declared as holidays by executive order. Autumn Durga Puja will also have 2 days off – general holiday on Vijaya Dasami and holiday on Navami by executive order.
The list also mentions that there will be 14-day holiday by executive order on the occasion of various religious festivals and Bengali New Year. In addition, a maximum of 3 days of optional leave per year has been reserved for employees of the Republic.
Employees of Chittagong Hill Tracts and Minority Tribes are provided with 2 days of optional leave to celebrate social festivals, one of which falls on a weekend.
In 2024 there was a total of 22 days of leave, which increased to 26 days in 2025.
