The 807-page review petition filed on behalf of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will be presented to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court next Sunday. This petition outlines 10 arguments for the return of caretaker government.

Zainul Abedin, president of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum, said in a press conference on Wednesday, “The review application states that the thirteenth amendment has been omitted from the full judgment after the brief order published in the court and the judgment has been published through judicial fraud. He also said that the system of caretaker government was established on the basis of national consensus and it was an important step for democracy.

Besides, the petition has claimed that the fundamental pillar of the Constitution has been destroyed by the judgment repealing the Thirteenth Amendment and a dictatorship has been established. The review petition also said, “The Constitution is a living document and needs to be reconsidered to meet the needs of the times.

Notably, in 2011, the Supreme Court overturned the Thirteenth Amendment, which abolished the caretaker government system. However, a request has been made by the BNP Secretary General to review this judgment, so that the environment of fair and participatory elections in the country can be ensured.
