Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi criticized the interim government for not being able to control the prices of goods. Addressing this government, he said, ‘Every night, 50 crore rupees are extorted in the caravan market. It is normal that the price of daily commodities will increase there. But what do you do? Can’t break the syndicate even these days. People will say that the prices of goods used to increase during Sheikh Hasina’s time, they are still increasing. What’s the difference?’
He was the chief guest at the distribution of awareness leaflets and mass communication program to prevent dengue in front of Bikrampur Plaza in Jurain, Dhaka yesterday Saturday. There the three talked about various contemporary issues including dengue.
Regarding dengue control, Rizvi said that Sheikh Hasina did not take any measures to prevent dengue while in power. His intention was not public service, his intention was to kill people’s money and smuggle it abroad.
This BNP leader commented that every prison in the country was a ‘mirror’ of Sheikh Hasina. He said, those who spoke against her (Sheikh Hasina) and spoke in favor of democracy were kept in that room. Not only BNP leaders and activists, but those who spoke for democracy are being oppressed.
Rizvi said in reference to the recent movement of rural electricity employees for two-point demand, “Why didn’t you make a demand at that time (during Hasina’s tenure)?” You may have legitimate claims; But why shutdown? In whose interest did it? Want to return Hasina? Want to arrange to rob Bangladesh Bank, Basic Bank again?’
It is to be noted that the officers and employees of Palli Vidyut Samiti engaged in electricity supply in rural areas have been agitating for several months for two-point demands. In view of this, the Rural Electrification Board (REB) dismissed 20 officers of the association last Thursday. In protest of this incident, the employees of the association stopped the electricity supply. In this, the people of the village were without electricity for hours in the district.
Addressing the interim government, Rizvi also said, “They made necessary reforms and arranged elections quickly without delay.” An elected government will be accountable to the people. Whatever power comes, the power of the people should be returned to the people.
Former Member of Parliament Salahuddin Ahmed, Health Affairs Secretary of BNP Dr. Rafiqul Islam, BNP International Affairs Secretary Ishrak Hossain spoke. Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Acting President Tanveer Ahmed presided over the event.
