The verdict of repealing the 16th Amendment is upheld

The Appellate Division disposed of the review petition against the judgment of the Appellate Division declaring the Sixteenth Amendment of the Constitution invalid and null and void by placing the power of removal of judges in the hands of the members of Parliament. As a result, the verdict of repealing the 16th Amendment will be upheld, said the lawyer. Henceforth, the Supreme Judicial Council will have the power to remove judges.

Sunday (October 20) Chief Justice Dr. A 6-judge appellate bench headed by Syed Refat Ahmed passed the verdict. As a result of this judgment, the important review appeal was settled after eight years.

August 15 is the date of hearing of the review application against the judgment of the Appellate Division which declared the sixteenth amendment of the Constitution invalid and void by bringing the much-discussed power of removal of judges into the hands of parliamentarians. A 5-judge appellate bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed made the decision on this day.

Petitioner advocate Monzil Morsed presented the review petition to the court for hearing.

Several times before this, the review application against the judgment of the Appellate Division declaring the Sixteenth Amendment of the Constitution invalid and void was not heard.
