A young man named Sattar Mia (32) committed suicide by slitting his throat in Malakarpara in Madhavpur town of Habiganj. This incident happened on Wednesday afternoon. He is the son of Miyab Ali of Ward No. 2 of Madhavpur Municipality.

Miab Ali said that his son Sattar got addicted to drugs about 8 years ago. A couple of years ago he became reckless. If he did not get money for drug consumption, he would beat and vandalize the people of the house. About a year ago, he broke his wife Jotsna Begum’s hand by assaulting her. They tried to kill their two children by pushing their son on the ground. Unable to bear the torture, the wife and children left the father’s house. From then on, the drug-addicted Seventy became quite mentally unbalanced.

On Wednesday afternoon, Sattar got excited and started behaving wildly. At one point he went to Malakarpara area with a sharp tin seat and started cutting his own throat. Attempts to quell the eager crowd failed. On receiving the information, SI Saidur Rahman of Madhavpur police station reached the spot with the police and recovered the sharp piece of tin from his hands with the help of the crowd. Sattar was taken to Madhavpur Upazila Health Complex in critical condition. The doctor in charge of the emergency department said that Sattar died before being taken to the hospital due to excessive bleeding.

Madhavpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun told The Daily Morning Sun that legal action is being taken in this regard.
