Dhaka //
On Monday (October 28) Ganabhaban was visited by the chief advisor of the interim government. Muhammad Yunus. During the visit, he instructed the advisers to quickly build a museum of the July-August mass uprising at Ganabhaban.
Advisers Adilur Rahman Khan, Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud accompanied the chief adviser on the visit. Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Mahfuz Alam was also present at the time.
Deposed dictator Awami League Sheikh Hasina lived here for the last 15 and a half years. During this time it became a symbol of his brutal repression and brutal dictatorship.
During the inspection of the building destroyed by the angry crowd, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus said the museum would preserve the memory of his misrule and the anger that people expressed after he was ousted from power.
The chief adviser said Sheikh Hasina’s infamous security agencies had secretly detained hundreds of dissidents and opposition activists in the ‘mirror’, a replica of which should also be constructed in the Ganobhaban museum.
He said the mirror will remind visitors of the torture of secret prisoners.
Professor Yunus asked the advisors to consult with museum experts. He asked to finalize the proposal for the museum by December this year.
Student leader-turned-adviser Nahid Islam said that the misdeeds of Hasina’s regime, which began in 2009, will be carefully preserved in the museum.
He said that they are consulting with experts from other countries to know how the memorial museum of revolution and rebellion has been constructed.
Within moments of Sheikh Hasina fleeing Bangladesh and leaving for India on August 5, hundreds of thousands of protesters stormed the Ganobhaban.
The protestors expressed their anger by painting graffiti on the walls and rooms of the Ganabhaban and writing protest notes such as ‘Murderer Hasina’.
