The road accident drama was staged after the ‘premeditated killing’ of Gasfield official Moinul Hossain Ayani (55) in Sylhet’s Jaintapur upazila. The family buried the body without an autopsy, assuming it to be an accidental death. Two weeks after the murder, an incident took a turn for the worse.

Two weeks after the death of Moinul Hossain, in a local mosque meeting, a young man confessed out of ‘guilt’ that he and some others had planned and killed Moinul Hossain. After that, the family filed a murder case in this incident. After nearly four months of burial, Maynul’s body was taken out of the grave for autopsy on Sunday afternoon.

Moinul Hossain was working as Deputy Manager of Sylhet Gasfield Limited. He is a resident of Umanpur village under Chiknagul Union of Jaintapur Upazila. He was killed on his way home on his motorcycle at around 11 pm on June 13. At that time, it was known that Moinul was killed in front of Umanpur (Gas field No. 8 well) in Jaintapur Upazila No. 6 Chiknagul after being hit by a pickup van. As the family did not file a case in this incident, Tamabil Highway Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ATSI) Hizm Pavitra Singh filed a case citing the accident under the Road Transport Act as the plaintiff.

Talking to the residents of Umanpur village, it is known that on June 28, the people of the village sat in the local mosque for a discussion about an incident of litchi theft. There, a young man named Yusuf Ali (22) of the same village admitted that Moinul Hossain was killed in a planned manner out of his own ‘guilt’. He also mentioned the names of three others involved in the incident.

The local residents said that the murder happened due to the theft of litchi from the house of Azad Khan, a resident of Umanpur village. Litchi was stolen from several litchi trees in Azad Khan’s house. At that time, he arrested Umar Ali (22), Sohail Ahmad (22) and Yusuf Ali (22) of the same village. But these three threatened Azad on the contrary. Later, Azad Khan called an arbitrator in the village. Moinul Hossain played a strong role there. The accused persons did not appear in the arbitration. They were repeatedly asked to appear and apologize. The arbitrator fixed the date of next meeting on Friday, June 14, after Friday prayers.

Before this, Moinul Hossain was murdered on the night of June 13. A meeting was held after Friday prayers on June 28 to arbitrate the litchi theft case. In that meeting, the three accused were asked to be present, but only Yusuf Ali attended. At one stage of the meeting, Yusuf Ali described the murder of Moinul Hossain. Then tension spread in the area. When Yusuf Ali tried to be beaten, the local coach, UP Chairman and UP members calmed down the agitated crowd and brought the situation under control. Yusuf was later handed over to his relatives.

After Yusuf Ali’s confession, Nazmul Hossain, the brother of the victim, filed a murder case in the court on July 7. The court ordered the recording of the case on September 30. Following the court order, a case was registered at Jaintapur police station on October 3. Umanpur village Umar Ali (22), Sohail Ahmad Barek (22), Yusuf Ali (22), Subed Ali (21), Hormuz Ali (42), Mohammad Ali (42), Maram Ali (60), Taher Ali (45) have been named in the case. ) and Samsoor Islam (54) have been made accused.

Meanwhile, investigating officer of the Road Transport Act case by the police Sub-Inspector (SI) of Tamabil Highway Police Station Yunus Ali said in late September that the incident was not an accident; Instead, he gave the final report to the court that the incident was deliberately arranged. Yunus Ali said that the police filed a case because the family did not want to file a case at first. Later investigation also revealed that it was not an accident but a murder. A report has been given to the court accordingly. Since the matter of murder was not under the purview of the Highway Police, further action could not be taken in that regard.

Chiknagul Union Parishad member Farooq Ahmad and the deceased Moinul are residents of the same village. Farooq Ahmad told the media that there were frequent incidents of petty theft in the area; But no one involved could be arrested. After Moinul Hossain was caught red-handed in the theft incident at Azad Khan’s house, Moinul Hossain spoke out for the people involved in the incident not to be involved in criminal activities. Due to this, he was systematically killed before the next arbitration date.

Confirming that Yusuf Ali had confessed in the mosque, UP member Farooq further said that Yusuf Ali had mentioned everyone’s name. How they were killed, how they escaped later, where they stayed. Other coaches in the area have also heard the matter. As there was no case against him at that time, it was not possible to hand him over to the law enforcement officers.

Moynul’s body was handed over to the family on Monday afternoon after post-mortem. His brother Nazmul Hossain said that the process of burying the body in the same place is going on. He demanded that the killers of his brother be quickly arrested and brought under the law and given maximum punishment.

Jaintapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Bashar Mohammad Badruzzaman said that the police operation is continuing to arrest the accused in the case of gasfield officer’s death.Sutra-Prothom-alo.
