Acting Chairman of BNP Tariq Rahman advised to avoid haste and follow a well-thought-out method in making decisions on issues that are directly related to state security or the constitution. He said this while joining virtually in a post-Durga Puja greeting exchange ceremony with Sanatan religious people at Iskaton ladies club in the capital on Tuesday evening.
Acting Chairman of BNP pointed out that various interpretations and analyzes are going on in the current government itself apart from the political circles regarding the formation process of the interim government formed in the immediate situation after the escape of the Awami League government. He said, why did the interim government take oath under the current constitution or is the current government a revolutionary government? Some are also raising such questions. At this stage, such a debate on the process of formation of the interim government may hinder the dynamics of the government, may cause the government to deviate from its goals.
Referring to the fact that everyone is on the journey to reach the ultimate goal after bringing down the mafia government, regardless of religion and caste, Tariq Rahman said, “Though we (political parties) have differences in some cases on this journey, everyone’s goals and objectives are one and the same.” That is, to establish a non-discrimination, democratic and humane Bangladesh. As our goals and objectives are one and the same, BNP does not think that there is any room for misunderstanding between us.’
Referring to the reform programs undertaken by the interim government, the Acting Chairman of BNP said that the government has already started various reform programs to repair a fragile state. The reform process going through the mess of last 15 years is certainly a huge undertaking. However, it is important to note that if the daily suffering of the people cannot be alleviated while carrying out this huge work, if the issue of ensuring the political and economic empowerment of the people is neglected, all the reform activities of the government will be questioned by the people.
In this regard, Tariq Rahman commented that it is very important to set a priority-based agenda in the activities of the interim government. He said that the defeated evil forces and their allies have become active to make the present government fail.
Tariq Rahman said that there was no democracy and rule of law in the country in the last 15 years. No one was safe from pro-democracy forces and dissidents, including the BNP. After 15 years, Hindus are celebrating the festival in a free atmosphere.
Claiming that no untoward incident happened anywhere in Bangladesh during Durga Puja this year, Tariq Rahman said, “This was the religious-cultural values and education of the present time of Bangladesh.” But for 15 years, whenever a festival came, especially around the festival of Hindus, there was a deliberate attempt to create a frightening situation in the whole country. Defeated evil forces to serve their inferior party political interests created communal situation in the country.
Addressing the Hindus, Tariq Rahman said, ‘Religion belongs to everyone, everyone has the right to get security. Do not give in to any provocation of friends. Please don’t listen to any rumours. He said, minority or majority is just a word. The term “minority” or “majority” is not important to ensure national or social security. It is important to establish democracy and rule of law in the state and society. Without democracy and rule of law in the state, no one is safe, be it the majority or the minority.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir presided over the event. He criticized the Awami League’s failure to rebuild the country with everyone after the 1971 War of Independence. He said, “After many days, after the August 5 student uprising, the possibility of building a new Bangladesh is again in front of us. Let us move towards that goal.
Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain, a member of the party’s standing committee, said, “We want people of all religions to live together in peace in this country.”
BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Abdul Moin Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Vice Chairman Nitai Roy Chowdhury and other leaders of the Hindu community spoke on the occasion. A ZM Zahid Hossain, member of the Standing Committee of the BNP, member of the Standing Committee of the BNP, Subrata Chowdhury, members of the Chairperson’s Advisory Council, Sukomal Barua and Afroza Khanom, Chairman of the Hindu Buddhist Christian Welfare Front, Bijan Kanti Sarkar, Jyeshta Jum Secretary General Milton Baidya, Bangladesh Puja Udyapan Parishad General Secretary Santosh Sharma, Dhaka Metropolitan Public Puja Committee President Jayant Kumar Dev and others.
