Western countries are concerned about the news of North Korea’s deployment of troops on behalf of Russia in Ukraine. In the meantime, Western intelligence officials have claimed that some North Korean troops have entered Ukraine. It is believed that more North Korean troops could be deployed to the frontline of the Ukraine conflict after training in eastern Russia.
Last Monday, the United States and NATO said that about 10,000 North Korean troops are training in eastern Russia, and some of them have already reached Russia’s Kursk region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the North Korean forces could soon participate in the war.
The United States has yet to confirm the truth of this news. However, the United States is on alert after South Korea first disclosed the news of the deployment. In addition, top diplomatic and military officials from South Korea and the United States met in Washington to discuss Russia’s close ties with North Korea.
South Korea has notified its allies at NATO headquarters of the troop deployment. NATO members hope that South Korea may change its traditional policy to provide direct military assistance this time.
