BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has explained why he wants the national elections to be held soon.
On Thursday afternoon at the National Press Club, he said in a discussion on the occasion of the 52nd founding anniversary of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD, he said that we want early elections because no one can use the people except the elected government. That is why we think that one must reform, take it to the parliament, that way it will be approved. It should be debated and passed there and should be accepted by their representatives. So the earlier the elections the better for the country.
He said, secondly, if there is a trap, the enemy gets and is getting an opportunity to turn the revolution into a failure. You will see different circles bringing demands in different places. Why did no one do it before, now why? wait? Let the government of the people come. These things should be understood and kept in mind. Many people say that I have not been able to do it for a long time, so now I am bringing the demands. It destroys the stability of the country.
Referring to the words of some advisors, BNP Secretary General said that the advisors are performing their duties in a government. They should not say or do anything that would confuse the public. Our probably local government advisor (Hasan Arif) said four years government term. That’s not what he’s supposed to say. They have formed a commission that will propose the commission. The people will accept, then the people will be right; But if the incumbent says that the tenure of the government will be four years, then there is a pressure. Hasina (Sheikh Hasina) used to do this very well. He used to say that before the judgment of any case. These will never lead to the right path. So I would request that people should not talk in such a way that people get confused.
Mentioning that Bangladesh believes in secularism, Mirza Fakhrul said that the people of Bangladesh believe in secularism. We all communities have always worked together, fought together. Lately I see a community of people trying to create a big movement. I don’t know why, it matches India’s statement about the danger of Bangladesh. Which this revolution of Bangladesh is trying to endanger to a large extent what was achieved with the blood of the students. I was forced to say this. Foreign journalists call me, especially Indian journalists, they want to say – Sir Dr. Yunus is not able to run the state. Such talk comes from them. I tell them there is no question. The people of the whole country have confidence in him (Dr. Yunus). He is running the country beautifully. Nothing can exist that is supported by man.
President of JSD ASM Abdur Rab also spoke at the meeting – President of Nagrik Oikya Mahmudur Rahman Manna, General Secretary of Bangladesh Workers Party Saiful Haque, Convener of Bhasani Anusari Parishad Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, Tania Rab of JSD, Shahid Uddin Mahmud Swapan and others.
