A Bangladeshi youth was killed in Khasia firing at Jaintapur upazila border in Sylhet district. The incident took place at around 4 pm on Wednesday (November 6) at the Bangladesh-India border between Main Pillar No. 1286-1287 Tiprakhla-Ghilatail (Gourishankar) area.
The deceased has been identified as Jamir Ahmed (25), son of Abdul Mannan of Ghilatail village of Nijpat union in Jaintapur upazila.
Locals said that smugglers used to regularly bring various types of illegal Indian goods into Bangladesh through that area. On Wednesday afternoon, when Jamir Ahmed entered to bring cattle and buffaloes, the Khasia opened fire on him. He was seriously injured on the spot. Later, locals rescued him in an injured state and took him to the Jaintapur Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead. The doctor told the reporter that the deceased had bullet wounds in various parts of his body.
In addition, a source confirmed that the area of pillar no. 1284 to 1297 of the Jaintapur border has become a safe road for smugglers for a long time. In connivance with some unscrupulous members of the Rajbari BGB camp, these smugglers were fearlessly entering Bangladesh with banned illegal goods and spreading them in different parts of the country. The source also said that the destruction of the betel-betel nut jam of the Indian Khasias and bringing these goods created anger among them. When the young man infiltrated on Wednesday to protect the jam, the Khasias opened fire on him. Later, he was rescued in an injured state and taken to the hospital.
In this regard, the OC of Jaintapur Model Police Station said, “After receiving the news of the incident, the body is being prepared for post-mortem at the Jaintapur Health Complex. The reason for the incident will be investigated.” On the other hand, no statement was received from the Jaintapur Rajbari BOP.
