A journalist has been insulted by smugglers in Jaintapur, Sylhet. This has created a stir in the local area. Although the journalist has filed a general diary with Jaintapur Model Police Station seeking redress, whose GD No. 239.
It is learned that for a long time, smugglers have been smuggling banned Indian cattle and buffaloes into Bangladesh through various areas of the Jaintapur border. Bangladesh Border Guard 48 BGB has tried hard to bring the smugglers under the law, but Battalion 19 BGB has not been seen taking any visible steps. Similarly, Jaintapur Model Police Station is playing the role of a spectator. After joining Jaintapur, the new OC has been conducting one or two raids in name only and is taking responsibility.
Meanwhile, on November 6, a journalist named Md. Saj Uddin alias Saju filed a general diary at Jaintapur Model Police Station to prevent redress after being assaulted by smugglers. In addition, a Facebook social media page named Jaintapur Online has been seen going viral with the names of the attackers. It is mentioned there that “Last night in Jaintapur, the godfather of smugglers, Samad, Arman Bahini, tried to snatch the journalist’s mobile phone while the cow was entering. Later, it was mentioned that I hope everyone except me will be shocked if I post the said post. The smugglers will understand what the Jaintapur Online Press Club is. The copy of the GD is with the Secretary. However, it is requested not to post the copy of the GD on Facebook or anywhere else. At this time, it was further mentioned that if anything happens to me, my online press club is the highest for me and you. I can assure you that I may become bad as a person but may God never allow me to defame the club. This is my wish.” But although it is mysterious, the truth is that the matter is still under investigation.
After investigation, it was learned that top smugglers are freely smuggling various goods including liquor, marijuana, heroin, phencidyl, weapons, kits, sarees, betel nuts, sugar, shoes, cows and buffaloes through the Ghilaoil Tiprakhla Phulbari area under the jurisdiction of the Jainta Rajbari BGB camp. These goods are brought to Jaintapur Bazar through the Gaurishankar Bagan area and Rajbari playground in front of the Jaintapur Health Complex (Medical) gate and collected. Later, the goods were distributed to different parts of the country by transporting them in secret by some dishonest members of the police station and district detective police (DB).
The sources also said that some BGB members in charge of Rajbari camp were secretly extorting large sums of money and providing these facilities to smugglers. Several other yellow extortionist journalists also participated in the distribution of this large sum of money. Not only that, to avoid the hands of higher authorities, 10-12 people cleverly collected some goods or cows and buffaloes from the members of the gang, prepared a list of the seized goods, and after preparing the Caesar list, they again sold them to the members of the gang by auction. In this, “chariot viewing and banana selling” took place together. The source said that the ritual of bringing the stolen goods started after 12:30 am on Friday (November 7). It continues every night until 7:30 am.
Recently, on Wednesday (November 6), at around 4 pm, a young man named Jamir Ahmed (25), son of Abdul Mannan of Ghilatail village, was killed in a Khasi gunfight between Main Pillar No. 1286-1287 Tiprakhla-Ghilatail (Gourishankar) area of the Bangladesh-India border, but the local administration did not budge. These illegal and banned trades are going on rampage over the dead bodies. And mainstream journalists are being tortured and harassed, this is their daily activity. Saju is crying in silence after being assaulted by smugglers while collecting news and recording BDOs in that area. However, the top smugglers who became millionaires from zero remain beyond the reach of the law for some unknown reason despite carrying out attacks, cases and torture.
Several local shopkeepers, who did not want to be named, told the reporter that all businesses in Jaintapur market were closed before 11 pm. Later, although this market adjacent to the upazila gate was dark, some linemen, brokers and smugglers continued to work until nightfall. They said that these goods are loaded into trucks every day under the nose of Jaintapur police station, but we cannot protest due to fear of attacks, cases and our lives. They expressed their regret and said that many young people, including youth, from different classes and professions are getting involved in this smuggling business. At this time, they claimed that it is only a matter of time before the higher authorities of 19 BGB and the Bangladesh military and intelligence agencies come forward to remedy this. Then they expressed their anger and said that if the seized goods that are auctioned are sold through the court, the government will be able to collect crores of taka in revenue every year. Because then the smugglers will not be able to harass anyone in the name of auction.
