How much money has been wasted in the name of Mujib Year will be found out: Press Secretary

Dhaka //

A documentation will be made of how much money each ministry has spent in the name of Mujib Year, said Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to the chief advisor. He said this at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy auditorium in the capital on Thursday (November 7) evening.

Mentioning that public money has been wasted in the name of Mujib Year, the press secretary said, “You know how there has been a frenzy surrounding Mujib Year. The cabinet has decided to document what kind of work has been done in Mujib Year and how much money has been wasted.”

Stating that documentation will be made of how much money each ministry has spent in the name of Mujib Year, he said, “A list will be made of how much money each ministry has wasted in the name of Mujib Year.”

The press secretary said, “Where we are reaching out to the IMF for a loan; we are asking for a loan of 4.5 billion US dollars from the IMF; There, we have wasted thousands of crores of taka in the name of Mujib Barsho, we have made some murals, we have made some statues. It is not just the matter of money going from the government treasury.

Stating that this decision was taken at the meeting of the advisory council, he said, in many cases, private institutions have also been forced, as a result, some have made Mujib corners, some have been forced to make Mujib murals. There was a frenzy of spending money keeping Mujibism in mind.

Regarding the wastage of money, he said, we have seen a report in a newspaper, but we could not verify it. The newspaper says that 10,000 statues have been made by spending 4,000 crore taka just in the name of making murals.

In response to a question whether any decision will be taken regarding the bureaucrats who performed their duties during Mujib Barsho, Shafiqul Alam said, first let there be documentation, then we will see what can be done. After the documentation, we will see how much has been wasted. This money is taxpayers’ money. We will definitely see how this money was spent.

He also said, “You must have seen that 117 crore taka has been spent on two murals on the Padma Bridge, can you imagine?”

The Chief Advisor’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Apurba Jahangir were present at the press conference.
