The office of the social media TikTok is being closed in Canada, citing security risks. The country’s government has ordered the office to be closed. Reuters news agency reported that despite the order to close the office, the TikTok app is not being closed in the country right now.
Canadian Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champa said that his administration has decided to address potential national security risks related to TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance. For this reason, TikTok’s Canada office has been ordered to be closed.
He said that the government will not curtail the right of Canadian citizens to use TikTok or create content on it. Whether or not to use a social media platform is a personal decision.
The TikTok app has already been banned in several countries such as India, Afghanistan, and Iran. The United States has also passed a bill in Congress to permanently ban TikTok. Although TikTok is popular among the young generation, parents believe that it is harmful. In addition, those concerned believe that its social harm is becoming increasingly evident.
