Police have recovered the body of college student Sumon Mia (17), who was kidnapped after she refused to marry him.
Seven days after her disappearance, on Tuesday, November 12, at 1:30 am, police recovered Sumon Mia’s body buried in the ground from the yard of her lover Anni’s other boyfriend Robin.
The deceased Sumon is the son of farmer Md. Nazrul Islam of Kasba Barakpara (Nimtala) area of the city and is a class 11 student of Sherpur Government College.
Police said that based on the complaint filed by the family, on the evening of November 4, while Sumon Mia was returning home from college, 2-3 other youths forcibly picked him up in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in the presence of Anni in the city’s Bagraksa Kazibari Pukurpar area and abducted him. Sumon’s father filed a general diary (GD) in this incident with Sadar Police Station. After not finding Sumon for the past few days, her parents, local residents and some students of the anti-discrimination movement met with Superintendent of Police Md. Aminul Islam on Sunday afternoon and demanded the rescue of Sumon and the arrest of those involved in the incident.
Following the complaint, Anni’s father, teacher Md. Azim Uddin, and Anni Akhter (19) were arrested from the Pukurpar area of Bagraksa Kazibari in the city on Sunday night, November 10, according to the police. However, after the kidnapping, Anni’s other boyfriend Robin alias Rony was arrested from Mymensingh based on secret information, which unraveled the mystery. Later, in Sajbarkhila, policeman Forkan Ali’s son Robin’s house in the municipal town, Sumon Mia’s body was recovered from the place he had shown. The people of the densely populated Sajbarkhila area were shocked by such news.
Several local sources said that Sumon and Anni were in a love relationship and Anni called Sumon with the promise of marriage. Anni, who is addicted to multiple loves, also got into a love affair with Robin. Many people think that this may have been the reason for the incident.
The body was sent to the morgue the night after it was recovered. The relatives of Sumon, who died in the incident, demanded the hanging of all the criminals involved, including Anni and Robin.
In this regard, Sherpur Superintendent of Police Md. Aminul Islam said that the police investigated the entire incident seriously, tracked the mobile phone, and arrested the killer Robin from Mymensingh, the last location of Sumon’s phone, and recovered Sumon’s body buried in the ground from the place he showed. Details will be known after the investigation.
