The opinions of 22 political parties and alliances, including BNP-Jamaat, have been sought for electoral system reform. The Election Reform Commission has written to the parties and alliances requesting them to express their opinions on the matter by November 25.
In this regard, the head of the Election Reform Commission, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, said, “We are deeply reviewing the laws and regulations. We have held 17-18 meetings. We are satisfied with our progress. We have received some opinions. We will also take the opinions of the media. However, he believes that there is no need for dialogue with the parties.”
However, opinions will not be sought from the Awami League and its allies. This information has been learned from the commission sources.
According to the relevant sources, the government has given some advice to the commission regarding which parties to seek opinions from. Currently, 48 political parties, including the Awami League, are registered with the Election Commission. Letters are not being sent to all the registered parties. Some groups that are not registered will also receive letters. However, if they wish, any group, organization or individual outside of these can give their opinions or proposals on the reform. Everyone has the opportunity to give their opinions and proposals digitally.
