A top Iranian official said that Tehran will support any decision by Lebanon to end the ongoing war between Hezbollah and Israel. This was confirmed by Ali Larijani, a senior advisor to the country’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The British news agency Reuters reported this news in a report.
It said that Ali Larijani met with the speaker of the Hezbollah-backed Lebanese parliament, Nabih Berri, in Beirut. During this time, Tehran wants to support any decision taken by the Lebanese government, especially the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701.
At a press conference, Larijani was asked if he had come to Beirut to sabotage the US ceasefire plan?
In response, he said, “We don’t want to waste anything.” We want solutions to the problems.’
He also said, ‘We support the Lebanese government in any situation.’
Earlier, Reuters reported that the US ambassador to Lebanon submitted a ceasefire proposal to Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Thursday. It seeks a solution to stop the fighting between the armed group Hezbollah and Israel.
Israel launched air and ground operations in Lebanon in late September after cross-border clashes parallel to the Gaza war. Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and many top commanders, including Hashem Safieddine, lost their lives. On the other hand, the death toll of Israeli soldiers in the fight with Hezbollah is also increasing. At least 47 Israeli soldiers have been killed in the fight with Hezbollah since September 30. And nearly three hundred have been injured. Six soldiers were killed last Wednesday alone.
On the other hand, since the Gaza war began, at least 3,500 people have been killed and nearly 14,500 injured in Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
Meanwhile, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said on Wednesday (November 14) that Israel wants freedom to attack Lebanon even after the ceasefire. However, doubts remain whether Iran will accept such conditions.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese government says that if there is an agreement, it will be based on UN Resolution 1701. Just like how Hezbollah and Israel ended the war in 2006.
