A Bangladeshi youth named Jamal Hossain (30) died after being hit by a bamboo pole while trying to bring cattle into India in the Burirhat Ghongagach area of the Indian border in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat district. Jamal Hossain, who was injured, died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Rangpur early on Sunday (November 17).
It was learned after investigation that the deceased Jamal Hossain is the son of Sabuj Mia of Chowpathi village in Goral union of Kaliganj upazila.
Locals said that 10-15 smugglers went to the Indian border from the Bangladesh-India international border pillar 917-918, Cooch Behar border in India, on Saturday morning to bring cattle. At that time, Jamal Hossain was injured by a bamboo pole while trying to cross the cattle. His companions who were with him at the time of the incident rescued him and admitted him to a private hospital in Rangpur. At one stage, he died there while undergoing treatment.
When I spoke to 15 BGB Battalion CEO Major Asiful Islam Siddiqui in this regard, he told the journalist, I have heard about the matter.
Ramzan Ali, panel chairman of Goral Union Parishad, said, I have heard about the incident from the locals. The family of the deceased Kamal Hossain has claimed that he died after being hit on the head by a bamboo pole on the border.
Sub-Inspector (SI) in-charge of Goral Police Investigation Center Mostakim said, I have heard about the matter. Police have been sent to the spot. Action will be taken after investigation. The officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station told the journalist, I have come to know about the matter. The body of the deceased is currently in the hospital.
