Friends of dictatorship are sitting in the secretariat, disappointed by the chief advisor’s speech: Fakhrul

Dhaka //

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been disappointed by the speech of the interim government’s chief advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

He said that many people are hopeful. I am a little disappointed. We had hoped that the chief advisor would use all his wisdom to identify the problems and leave a form for the election.

He said these things at a discussion meeting organized by BNP at the National Press Club in the capital on Monday, ‘On the occasion of the 48th death anniversary of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani’.

Regarding the chief advisor’s speech, Mirza Fakhrul said, why are we repeatedly talking about elections, because if elections are held, the problems will be solved. It is not a big deal whether BNP comes to power or not. But those who are trying to cause harm today will be forced to retreat.

Regarding reforms, he said, “We don’t just want reforms, we have started reforms. We will definitely want reforms and we will do reforms. Please move forward in a way that is beautiful and acceptable to everyone. We have not created any obstacles for you so far. On the contrary, we are supporting you.”

Commenting that the friends of dictatorship are sitting in the secretariat, Fakhrul said to the government, “How will you work? Who will you use to reform? They will not let you reform.”

Regarding the governance system, he said, “We need to pay attention to that. Run the country in such a way that the people of the country feel relieved and at peace. There is no reason for relief. There is no reason for peace because the prices of goods have increased. The people of the country are accepting that too. Their expectation is that you will give them something beautiful. Make it visible that you are taking action. Try to break the syndicates.”

Regarding reforms, the BNP Secretary General said, “This government has formed many commissions for reforms. We and the people have trust in them.” But we want to end it quickly and move towards the light through the election-centric reform system.

Stating that the more the election is delayed, the more controversy will arise, he said, if it is delayed, the enemies of Bangladesh will organize.

Mirza Fakhrul said, we talked about 31-point reforms two years ago. Our acting chairman Tarique Rahman has discussed these reforms even earlier. So we definitely want reforms and that time must be within a reasonable time and not to think that they will remain in power.

The meeting, chaired by BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu, was attended by the party’s Vice Chairman Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon and others.
