Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus said that if political parties do not want reforms, then national elections will be held now.
He said these things in an interview with a media outlet earlier.
Regarding the timeframe for reforms and elections, Dr. Muhammad Yunus said that the faster the reforms are carried out, the faster the elections will be held. And if political parties say that they do not want reforms, then we will hold elections now. However, reforms and elections are completely a matter of consensus among political parties, because to get the direct opinion of the people of the country, a referendum will have to be organized.
Regarding the election roadmap, the chief advisor said, we are walking on two parallel roads. One is elections, the other is reforms.
Stating that the interim government will pave the way for elections through consensus with political parties as soon as possible, the chief advisor said, we are not imposing anything. The administration is only working to simplify the process.
Stating that the Election Commission will be announced in a day or two, he said, “The commission will operate as it is. That is not under my control. Whatever is needed will be done there.”
However, the chief advisor repeatedly commented that elections are not possible without political consensus.
He said that the report of the reform commission will be available by the end of December. There will be meetings with political parties. Efforts will continue to reach a compromise, which ones they want and which ones they don’t want.
He also said that the timeframe for the reforms will depend on how quickly the political parties can reach a consensus.
