US President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Linda McMahon, co-chair of his transition team (the team overseeing the transfer of power), as the country’s next secretary of education. Trump announced this in a statement.

Linda is a former executive of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). She co-founded World Wrestling Entertainment with her husband Vince McMahon.

In the statement, Trump praised Linda McMahon’s work as co-chair of the transition team. He said that McMahon is doing a “great” job.

Trump believes that Linda McMahon will also do a commendable job as secretary of education to spread the idea of ”quality” education systems in every state. He will work tirelessly to empower parents to make the best decisions for their families’ education.

Trump said, “I will put education back in the hands of the states, and Linda will lead that effort.”

McMahon was named co-chair of the transition team in August. She had previously donated $814,600 to Trump’s campaign by July.

Linda McMahon served on Trump’s cabinet during his first term. She served as administrator of the Small Business Administration from 2017 to 2019.

Since 2021, Linda McMahon has served as board chairwoman of the Washington, D.C.-based think tank, the America First Policy Institute. She also serves as chair of the Center for the American Worker, which is part of the America First Policy Institute.

McMahon, a former Connecticut Senate candidate, is also the chair and CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald.

McMahon was named in a new lawsuit filed last October against World Wrestling Entertainment, alleging that he and other company executives failed to prevent the sexual abuse of young boys by wrestling ringside announcer Melvin Phillips Jr. The lawsuit specifically alleges that the McMahons failed to stop the abuse even after they were aware of it.

In an interview with USA Today Sports, a lawyer for McMahon said the allegations against his client were false. He called them “absurd, defamatory and completely unacceptable.”
