BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s 60th birthday is today. However, due to the prevailing situation in the country, no program is being held by the party this year. The party also has a ban on this matter. If they do not comply, organizational action will be taken against those concerned. It is learned that such a decision has been taken due to Tarique Rahman’s strict instructions.
Everyone is seeing such instructions of Tarique Rahman as positive. It was announced earlier that no program would be held on the occasion of the party’s Acting Chairman’s birthday. BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi reminded the party leaders and activists of the matter again in a press release on Tuesday.
Tarique Rahman was born on November 20, 1965. He is the eldest son of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. His nickname is Pino. He became a member of the Gabtoli Thana BNP in Bogra in 1988 at the age of 22. However, he was very active in politics before officially joining the organization. In 2002, he was appointed as the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General. After that, he started extensive public relations with the party’s field-level leaders, activists and supporters across the country.
During the One Eleven government, he had to go to prison and was subjected to torture. At one point, he went to London for treatment. From there, he gradually became involved in the party’s management.
He was elected the party’s Senior Vice Chairman at the BNP’s Fifth National Council held in Dhaka in 2009 and the Sixth Council in 2016. Since BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia went to prison on February 8, 2018, he has been serving as the party’s acting chairman from the United Kingdom.
