The court has granted a three-day remand to former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun. He was granted this remand in the Fazlul Karim murder case of the capital’s Uttara Purba Police Station, which is centered on the anti-discrimination movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman issued this order on Monday. Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun was produced in court from jail on that day. Then, in the interest of a fair investigation of the case, the investigation officer, Inspector Mahmudur Rahman of the Uttara Zonal Team of the DB, applied for his 10-day remand. The accused party canceled the remand and applied for bail. The state party opposed bail. After hearing both sides, the judge granted him a three-day remand.
According to the case report, Fazlul Karim participated in an anti-discrimination movement at Jasim Uddin intersection next to Dhaka Mymensingh Road under Uttara Purba police station in the capital on August 5. Fazlul and many others were injured in the gunfire fired by the accused at 4:30 pm. When he was taken to Bangladesh Kuwait Friendship Hospital at around 9:19 pm, the doctor declared him dead. In this incident, the deceased’s brother Anwar Hossain Aynal filed a murder case against 39 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, at Uttara Purba police station on August 21. Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun is the accused number 6 in the case.
