West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, I do not want any religion to be harmed. I have spoken to the ISKCON person here. Since this is a matter for another country, the central government will have to take necessary action. We stand by the central government on this issue.
While talking to reporters in the West Bengal Assembly on Thursday, Mamata Banerjee made these comments in response to a question about the recent developments in Bangladesh.
Earlier, a member of parliament from her party, Saugata Roy, told news agency PTI at the Parliament House in Delhi, that it is a very sad incident, a matter of concern. This atrocity against Hindus should not happen. I condemn such incidents.
However, this is the first comment heard from the Trinamool Congress party leader and Chief Minister on the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh and the subsequent violence.
For the past two days, BJP leaders have been questioning why there is no response from the ruling party or the Chief Minister of West Bengal when, according to them, Hindus are being atrocities in the neighbouring country!
Earlier, Congress leader and newly elected MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also reacted to the situation in Bangladesh on her X (former Twitter) handle.
The arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das and the “news of continuous violence against minority Hindus is very worrying”, wrote Mrs. Vadra.
She wrote, I will appeal to the Central Government to intervene in this matter and strongly raise the issue of ensuring the safety of minorities with the Bangladesh Government.
