Russia is launching missile strikes on Ukraine in response to attacks inside the country. In the last two days, Russian troops have launched 100 drones and 90 missiles into Ukraine. This has caused power outages in various cities in Ukraine, leaving more than 1 million people without power in sub-zero temperatures.

On Thursday (November 28), Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted Russia’s recent progress in the war in Ukraine at the summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), a security alliance of former Soviet countries, in the Kazakh capital of Astana. In his speech, Putin said that Russia’s Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missiles were used in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro last week. At the same time, he said, Russia has begun mass production of nuclear-capable weapons and the Defense Ministry is selecting targets for new missile strikes in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said that the Russian attack had severely damaged their country’s electricity infrastructure, forcing the operator of the national power grid to urgently reduce electricity supplies. President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of using cluster munitions and targeting civilian infrastructure. He said cluster munition attacks had been recorded in several regions. This is a despicable form of Russian terrorist tactics. Ukraine needs more Western air defense systems to protect itself from Russian attacks.
