Bangladesh is outraged by the attack on the Bangladeshi High Commission in Agartala, India. Bangladeshis have been vocal on Facebook and other social media since Monday night. Many have expressed strong condemnation and anger. Legal Advisor Asif Nazrul also posted on Facebook, calling the attack ‘heinous’.
In the Facebook post, the Legal Advisor wrote, ‘Today, the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Agartala, India was vandalized, and Bangladeshi firecrackers were set on fire. Members of an organization called Hindu Sangharsh Samiti committed this heinous incident. (I ask, what kind of aggressive campaign would India have launched if an organization called ‘Muslim Sangharsh Samiti’ had committed this incident in Bangladesh?) ‘In the post, the advisor also cited international law to provide security to the embassies of a country. He wrote- ‘According to international law, the Indian government is responsible for providing complete security to the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission on Indian soil. They have failed to do so. I condemn this failure.’
Meanwhile, the advisor also mentioned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s statement on Bangladesh. In this regard, he wrote, ‘I condemn West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata’s statement. What is happening in different parts of India, on the minorities and Dalit communities, on the contrary, India (and Mamata) should be ashamed of it.
‘I tell India, we believe in friendship based on equality and equal rights. Sheikh Hasina’s government believed in the policy of appeasement of India out of greed to stay in power without votes. However, India should understand that this is not Sheikh Hasina’s Bangladesh. This Bangladesh is independent, sovereign and self-respecting. This Bangladesh belongs to a fearless young community.’
