Bangladesh not under threat, Indian media spreading propaganda: Home Affairs Advisor

Dhaka //

Bangladesh’s sovereignty is not under any threat, Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) has said.

The advisor made this statement while briefing reporters after inaugurating a program organized by the Fire Service and Civil Defense to mark ‘International Volunteer Day 2024’ at the Purbachal Fire Service and Civil Defense Multipurpose Training Ground in the capital this morning.

In response to a question from reporters about the border, the advisor said, there is no tension on the border, the border is in normal condition as usual. However, the Indian media is spreading propaganda about Bangladesh. For this, he requested the Bangladeshi media to respond to the Indian media’s propaganda by publishing true news. He said, Indian media is an example of how naked and false information one country can spread about another country. All of us who are in this country will protest against it together.

In response to another question from journalists, the advisor said, there is no cause for concern on the India issue. You will protest what they are doing and reveal the truth, at that time their faces will get itchy.

All political parties have called for national unity, will this have a positive impact? When asked, Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said, when we all come together, there will definitely be a positive impact. In this way, we will all work together, we will be able to protest together. This is a very good aspect.

In response to the recent comments of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee about Bangladesh, the advisor said, I think she has mentioned Bangladesh by mistake. I think it is necessary to deploy UN peacekeepers in her country, because you have seen how minorities (Muslims) are being tortured there.

In his speech as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony, the Home Affairs Advisor said, Fire Service and Civil Defense are working towards creating 62,000 volunteers across the country. They have already completed training more than 55,000 volunteers. He said, it is difficult for members of the Fire Service and Civil Defense to deal with disasters like floods, earthquakes, etc. alone. In this regard, the role of volunteers is very important. However, there is no alternative to training to make them suitable. Volunteers at all levels and their necessary preparation and training are very important, especially in dealing with terrible disasters like earthquakes.

Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said, the trained volunteers of the Fire Service and Civil Defense have been able to emerge as friends of the people through selfless service. Volunteers have also participated shoulder to shoulder with firefighters in major accidents in the country, including the Rana Plaza building collapse in Savar and the terrible fire accident at the BM Container Depot in Chittagong.

Brigadier General Muhammad Zahed Kamal, ndc, Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department, delivered the welcome speech at the event.
