Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul said that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s younger sister Sheikh Rehana was the cashier of corruption. Sheikh Rehana’s cashiers were former Prime Minister’s Private Investment Advisor Salman F Rahman and former minister Jonayed Ahmed Palak.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day on Monday (December 9). The discussion meeting was organized at the Diploma Engineers Institute auditorium in Kakrail, Dhaka. TIB Executive Director and ACC Reform Commission Chief Dr. Iftekharuzzaman spoke as the special guest. ACC Secretary Khorsheda Yasmin presided over the meeting. ACC officials at various levels were present at the meeting.
The legal advisor said that a peon of the former prime minister also became the owner of four billion taka. Again, the former prime minister shamelessly said this in public.
Dr. Asif Nazrul said that the ACC had become a slave of the previous government. Now no one is creating pressure on the ACC. He said that if there is no injustice, good work can be done despite political pressure. Through this July coup, the youth have brought a new Bangladesh in exchange for blood.
In response to a question from journalists at the end of the meeting, the advisor said that if an interim commission is formed at this time to manage the activities of the ACC, various complications will arise. The government is working to appoint a new commission without much delay.
Special guest Dr. Iftekharuzzaman said that those who commit corruption must be brought to justice. The previous government illegally seized state power and established authoritarianism. An unprecedented opportunity has been given to repeatedly turn black money into white in the budget. The youth rose up against it because of the establishment of authoritarianism. In the past, the commission and its employees were immersed in corruption. A massive campaign will have to be launched to revamp the ACC.
He also said that the work is being disrupted due to the resignation of the ACC commission. He advised the government to form an interim commission at this time.
ACC Secretary Khorsheda Yasmin and ACC Director General Md. Akhter Hossain also spoke at the meeting.
Earlier, at 8 am, Secretary Khorsheda Yasmin, along with all the directors general of the commission, inaugurated the ACC Day program by hoisting the national flag and the ACC flag, singing the national anthem, and releasing balloons and festoons. Later, a human chain program was held in front of the ACC.
