At least 38 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes in various parts of the besieged Gaza Strip, medical workers said. Most of them were killed in an attack on a house in Beit Lahia.

Gaza health officials said that 44,805 Palestinians have been killed and 106,257 injured in the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza so far.

A Reuters report on Wednesday said that at least 22 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a multi-storey building in Beit Lahia. Among them were women and children.

More than 30 people lived in the building. Many are still missing and rescue operations are underway.

The Israeli military said it targeted Hamas fighters near the Kamal Adwan Hospital.

The Israeli army also attacked the Beit Hanoun and Nusseirat refugee camps on the same day. The attack on Beit Hanoun left many people injured and seven members of a family were killed in the attack on the Nusseirat camp.

In addition, nine people were killed in an attack in Gaza City, including journalist Iman al-Shanti, her husband and three children. Iman al-Shanti is the 193rd Palestinian journalist to lose her life in an Israeli attack.

Claims to have killed two Hamas commanders

The Israeli army claimed in a statement that its troops killed two top Hamas commanders in separate attacks. One of them is Fahmi Selmi, who was the leader of Hamas’ elite unit and one of the leaders of Hamas’s October 7 operation last year.

The other is Salah Daman, who was the head of Hamas’ paragliding unit in the Jabalia region. Israel claims that he was killed in an airstrike last week.

Israel claims that it is carrying out this operation to destroy Hamas’s military infrastructure.

The offensive began after a surprise operation by Hamas on October 7, 2023.

Israel sees the attack as a resistance against Hamas. However, the Palestinian people see it as an operation to destroy civilians and their homes. Source: Reuters
