BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has returned home after his London visit. He arrived at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a Bangladesh Biman flight at 12:45 pm today, Thursday. Mirza Fakhrul was accompanied by his wife Rahat Ara Begum during the visit.

Earlier, after leaving for London on November 30, Mirza Fakhrul met with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. During his visit to London, he discussed with expatriate Bangladeshis living there and party leaders. He participated in some local party programs there.

Mirza Fakhrul spoke to reporters about the visit. He said, “The purpose of going to London was to meet the acting chairman and talk to BNP leaders, including expatriate Bangladeshis. My visit there was good and fruitful.”

Asked what message he brought from Tarique Rahman, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Tarique Rahman said that the countrymen have to be patient. A huge victory has been achieved in the student-public movement. To make this victory a success, everyone has to work together and re-establish democracy.”

The BNP Secretary General also said, “The first step of democracy is for everyone to prepare for the elections.”

Regarding Tarique Rahman’s return to the country, Mirza Fakhrul said, “There are false and vindictive cases against him. If they are withdrawn or settled through the court, he will return to the country.”

Meanwhile, regarding the formation of an interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus, the BNP Secretary General said, “We are cooperating with political parties. I hope they will complete the minimum reforms and go on the path to holding elections.”

BNP leaders Farhad Hossain Azad, Abu Mohammad Ahsan Firoz, Sadi Ahmed and media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan were present to welcome Mirza Fakhrul at the airport.
