On the occasion of Victory Day (December 16), BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman gave a message on the future of Bangladesh. He gave such a message in an English post from his verified Facebook account on Monday. The post is reproduced in full:
“This Victory Day celebrated in a fascism-free environment is certainly more joyful, glorious and significant. I firmly believe that every Independence and Victory Day of Bangladesh in the future will be a symbol of the state and government’s commitment to the people.
This unity must be utilized to build a Bangladesh free from discrimination and division. We must remember that national unity cannot be strong or sustainable without the empowerment of the people. Reforms are inevitable to bring about qualitative changes in the state and politics. The people have the right to know the practical roadmap of the interim government – what it plans to achieve and the necessary timeframe.
To protect the state and government from the return of dictatorship and fascism, it is as important as adhering to the rules and regulations to build a democratic political culture in daily practice. A parliament, composed of elected representatives committed to reflecting the aspirations of the people through a public mandate, serves as the foundation of democratic governance in both the state and society. The political power of the people is truly secured when an accountable government and an effective parliament work together.’’
He also attached a gif image of the Bangladesh flag with the post. Where the red and green flag of Bangladesh is fluttering.
