Priyanka Gandhi, the first-time Congress MP, spoke in the Lok Sabha of India. Speaking on the occasion of Victory Day on Monday, she raised questions about the current situation in Bangladesh and the desired role of the Indian government.
She said that today, minority oppression is going on in Bangladesh. People of different religions and communities, including Hindus and Christians, are being continuously attacked.
After that, Priyanka demanded that this time it is time for the Indian government to take action on the Bangladesh issue once again.
Priyanka raised two main demands to stop the oppression of minorities in Bangladesh. According to her, firstly, the Indian government must immediately intervene in this matter. Secondly, the Indian government must talk to the current administration of Bangladesh and take steps to stop the lawlessness and oppression.
Incidentally, the Modi government has not been seen to play a major role in the current situation in Bangladesh so far. Although the Indian Foreign Secretary has already visited Bangladesh. He criticized the oppression of minorities.
He has also been assured by Bangladesh and has also protested that the Indian media is spreading propaganda on the issue. Even then, the picture has not changed much.
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a speech on the occasion of Victory Day today (December 16). Significantly, he has referred to Victory Day as ‘India’s victory’, but he did not mention the name of Bangladesh.
On the other hand, the head of the current government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, attended the ‘Great Victory Day’ celebration in Bangladesh, but he did not mention the name of India.
It is worth noting that the Liberation War of Bangladesh ended on December 16, 1971. After being defeated by Indian troops in the Bangladesh-Pakistan War, the Pakistani army was forced to formally surrender to India on this day. The result was the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent state.
On this day, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi remembered that historic moment standing in the Lok Sabha. She paid tribute to the brave soldiers whose unyielding struggle brought victory that day.
Significantly, in this context, the late Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, was also remembered with respect by her granddaughter Priyanka Gandhi. She reminded that while the West Pakistani army was brutally atrocities being committed against the then East Pakistan, the rest of the world played the role of spectators, while the then Indian government (led by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi) jumped in to save Bangladesh.
In this context, Priyanka said in the Lok Sabha, even the famous photograph of that historic moment – the evidence of the surrender of the Pakistani army to the Indian army in 1971 – has been removed from its place! Which is unacceptable. Source: Hindustan Times
