AF Hasan Arif, the interim government’s advisor to the Ministry of Land and the Ministry of Private Aviation and Tourism, has passed away (Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un). He was 83 years old.

He died at a hospital in the capital on Friday afternoon.

The information about the death of Advisor Hasan Arif was confirmed by his Assistant Private Secretary (APS) Md. Abed Chowdhury. He said that Advisor Hasan Arif died of a heart attack at 3:10 pm today (Friday) at LabAid Hospital in the capital Dhaka.

Hasan Arif was sworn in as the advisor to the interim government on August 8. On the same day, Dr. Muhammad Yunus was sworn in as the chief advisor.

Hasan Arif served as the Attorney General from 2001 to April 28, 2005. Apart from this, he served as an advisor to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, and the Ministry of Land and Religion of the caretaker government led by Fakhruddin Ahmed.

Hasan Arif was born in Kolkata in 1941. After completing his secondary and higher secondary education from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, he completed his graduation and LLB degrees from the University of Calcutta.

Hasan Arif worked as a lawyer in the Calcutta High Court, West Bengal, India, in 1967. After that, he came to Dhaka and started working in the High Court of Bangladesh.
