3 more people die of dengue fever

Three more people have died of dengue fever in the last 24 hours. With this, the death toll this year has increased to 561. In addition, 141 people have been admitted to hospitals. The number of infected people has increased to 1029.

This information was given in a press release on dengue sent by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services on Saturday (December 21) evening.

It said that 141 more people have been admitted to hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours due to dengue transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. During this time, 3 more people have died. Among the deceased, one is a resident of Dhaka South City Corporation and one each of Barisal and Khulna divisions (outside the city corporations).

Among the infected, 70 people are from the two city corporation areas of Dhaka. In addition, 22 people in Dhaka division, 12 in Chittagong division, 13 in Barisal division, 11 in Khulna division, 5 in Mymensingh division and 8 in Rajshahi division have been admitted to the hospital.

From January 1 to December 21 this year, a total of 129 people have been admitted to the hospital due to dengue across the country, of which 63.10 percent are men and 36.90 percent are women. In addition, 51.70 percent of the 561 people who have died so far are women and 48.30 percent are men.

The dengue situation has taken a terrible shape since June 2023. Last year, 321,179 patients were admitted to the hospital in the country and received treatment. Of these, 110,08 were in Dhaka and 211,171 were treated outside Dhaka. Of the infected, 318,749 returned home after recovering from the hospital. Last year, 1,705 people died of this mosquito-borne disease, which is the highest death toll in a single year in the country’s history.

Earlier, in 2019, 101,354 people were infected with dengue nationwide. At that time, about 300 people, including doctors and health workers, died. Although dengue infections were not seen much during the Corona pandemic in 2020, 28,429 people were infected with dengue fever across the country in 2021. 105 people died of dengue that year. In addition, a total of 62,382 people were hospitalized with dengue in 2022. 281 people died of the mosquito-borne disease that year.
