Seven people were killed in a robbery attack on a fertilizer ship named MV Al-Bakhera anchored in the Ishanbala canal in Haimchar upazila of Chandpur. One person was seriously injured. The police have confirmed the identities of all the casualties.

Sheikh Abdus Sabur, Sub-Inspector (SI) of the Chandpur region of the Naval Police, confirmed this on Tuesday (December 24) morning.

The deceased are Md. Salauddin (40), son of Abed Molla, a resident of Egarnali village in Lahoria Kaliganj of Lohagara upazila of Narail. Aminur Munshi (41), son of Mahbub Rahman Munshi of Pangkhar Char Uttar village in Itna union of the same upazila.

Md. Kibria (65), son of the late Anisur Rahman, a resident of Juair village in Gedda union number 11 of Faridpur Sadar upazila. Sheikh Sabuj (27), son of the deceased Ataur Rahman of the same village. Md. Rana, a resident of Faridpur, is the ship’s cook.

Md. Majedul Islam Mojib (18), son of Anis Mia, a resident of Char Basantpur village of Mandal Gati Post Office in Mohammadpur upazila of Magura. Md. Sajibul Islam (29), son of Daud Hossain, a resident of Palash Bariya village of the same district. In addition, the injured Jewel is a resident of Faridpur.

A four-member investigation committee has been formed by the Ministry of Industries, said the ministry’s public relations officer Md. Alamgir Hossain. An additional secretary of the ministry has been made the convener and the joint secretary has been made the member secretary. The committee has been instructed to submit a report with clear recommendations within the next five working days, determining the cause of the killings, the extent of damage and responsibility, and determining what to do in the future to prevent similar incidents.
