The United States has announced a huge amount of aid to Ukraine to counter Russian aggression. The new aid amounts to $2.5 billion.
Outgoing US President Joe Biden announced this military aid on Monday (December 30). AP News reports.
Biden announced that his administration will send about $2.5 billion or $2.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine. Newly elected US President Donald Trump will take office as president next January, and Biden has already taken great initiatives to send aid to this war-torn country in Europe.
This aid was announced as part of the increased aid for Ukraine during the outgoing Biden administration.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a statement that the aid announced for Ukraine includes air defense equipment, anti-drone weapons, military equipment for highly mobile artillery rocket systems, anti-tank weapons and artillery ammunition.
The aid package was announced three weeks before Donald Trump took office as president, the AP reported. Trump has already questioned the size and level of US aid to Ukraine; this has raised concerns among Ukrainian leaders that US aid could be cut off in the future.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian military said on Monday that it had shot down 21 Russian drones that were targeting multiple targets in the country’s north and east. Ukraine’s air force said Russia had launched a total of 43 drones and its air defenses shot down the drones in the Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Odessa and Poltava regions.
Odessa Governor Oleh Kiper said on the messaging app Telegram that five homes had been damaged by falling debris, but no one was injured.
Russia’s defense ministry said on Monday it had intercepted a drone in the Belgorod region along the Russia-Ukraine border. Kursk regional officials said Russian air defenses had shot down a Ukrainian missile on Monday morning.
