President Md. Sahabuddin has sought Philippines’ cooperation to recover the entire stolen reserve money of Bangladesh Bank. The President sought this cooperation while presenting her credentials to the newly appointed Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh Nina Padilla Keinglet at Bangabhaban on Tuesday (December 31). Later, President’s Press Secretary Sarwar Alam briefed reporters. Out of the $81 million stolen from Bangladesh Bank in 2016, $15 million has already been recovered. He thanked the Philippine government for its cooperation in this regard.
The President hopes that this cooperation will continue to bring back the remaining money as soon as possible.
Welcoming the new ambassador, the President said that Bangladesh has always attached great importance to friendly relations with the Philippines. He said that Bangladesh and the Philippines will work together to strengthen bilateral cooperation. Stating that there is ample potential for increasing trade and investment between Bangladesh and the Philippines, the President urged the Philippines to import various international quality products including ready-made garments, frozen food, medicines, medium-sized sea-going ships, etc. from Bangladesh. The President sought the Philippines’ cooperation in repatriating the forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Myanmar to their own country.
Md. Sahabuddin sought the Philippines’ support in electing Bangladesh as an ‘ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner’. The new ambassador sought the President’s overall cooperation in discharging his duties. He will work to improve bilateral relations and increase trade and investment in the coming days. The concerned secretaries were present at the time. Earlier, upon reaching Bangabhaban, a smart cavalry contingent of the President’s Guard Regiment (PGR) formally presented the ‘Guard of Honor’ to the ambassador.
