Chief Advisor inaugurates 29th Dhaka International Trade Fair

The 29th Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF-2025) was inaugurated by the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. He declared the fair open at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center in Purbachal, a new town on the outskirts of the capital, at 11:28 am on Wednesday.

This month-long fair is being held for the fourth time at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center. The Ministry of Commerce and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) are the joint organizers of the fair. Along with domestic organizations, 11 organizations from 7 foreign countries will participate in this year’s fair. The participating countries are India, Pakistan, Turkey, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce (on routine duty of the Secretary) Md. Abdur Rahim Khan, Vice Chairman of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Md. Anwar Hossain, Administrator and former Additional Secretary of FBCCI, the apex body of traders, Md. Hafizur Rahman, among others.

The Ministry of Commerce said that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between EPB and app-based service provider Uber to provide special discounts on passenger transport at the fair. Under this, passengers will be able to travel to the fair in Uber cars at a 50 percent discount up to a maximum of Tk 500. At the same time, there will be scheduled bus services of BRTC for the convenience of travel. In addition, this is the first time that e-ticketing has been arranged to enter the fair.

For the first time, stalls or pavilion spaces of different categories have been allocated online at this trade fair. July Chattar and Chhatris Chattar have been created at the fair to honor the sacrifices of students and the public in the student movement against discrimination. A youth pavilion has been created to encourage the youth to engage in export trade.

This is the first time that the fair has taken the initiative to organize a seminar on a potential sector or product. There will be a separate sourcing corner, electronics and furniture zone for the convenience of foreign entrepreneurs or organizations. A technology corner and a sitting corner for senior citizens have been created for the convenience of age-based visitors. There will be a children’s park for children’s pure entertainment. There will be a mother and child center for mothers and children. There are comfortable and elegant chairs and benches for visitors to rest.

The Ministry of Commerce also said that 361 pavilions, stalls and restaurants of different categories will be available at this year’s fair. These have been allocated to domestic manufacturing-exporting organizations, general business organizations and foreign organizations on the basis of 100 percent transparency. Local textiles, machinery, carpets, cosmetics, electrical and electronic products, furniture, jute and jute products, household goods, leather, artificial leather, shoes and leather products, sports goods, sanitary ware, toys, stationery, crockery, plastic, melamine, polymer, herbal, toiletries, imitation jewelry, processed food products, fast food, handicraft products, home decoration materials, etc. will be displayed and sold at the fair.

To ensure the overall security of the fair and the safety of visitors, a sufficient number of police, armed police battalion, RAB, intelligence agencies and other law enforcement agencies will be deployed at the fair premises.

There will also be regular patrol teams outside the fair premises. Considering security as a priority, the required number of CCTVs have been installed at various important places, entrances, parking areas and all related areas of the fair premises.

Cleanliness has been given more importance in this fair. In addition to the adequate number of separate toilets for men and women in the exhibition hall, adequate number of toilets have been arranged outside the exhibition hall. To control the quality of food products at the fair, a team formed under the leadership of the Executive Magistrate and members of the law enforcement agencies will conduct anti-adulteration mobile courts every day during the fair.

A doctor will be present round the clock to provide free first aid and medical advice to visitors arriving at the fair. The fair has a two-story car parking building with parking facilities for more than five hundred cars. In addition, there is a separate parking arrangement on six acres of land outside the fair center.

A control room has been set up at the fair to supervise the overall activities of the fair and an information center has been set up to provide all kinds of information to visitors. Many banks have set up booths at the fair for banking services. The month-long fair will run from 10 am to 9 pm. It will be open until 10 pm on weekends.
