BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the interim government to hold elections as soon as possible. He said to the government that the people of Bangladesh must be rescued from this crisis by holding elections as soon as possible.
The BNP Secretary General said these things at a discussion meeting organized at the Engineers Institution in the capital on Wednesday afternoon to mark the 46th founding anniversary of Chhatra Dal.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman joined the discussion meeting virtually from London, chaired by Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib and moderated by General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir.
Addressing the interim government, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Finish the minimum reforms that need to be done and arrange for elections. The crisis can be resolved through elections.”
He said, “The conspiracy has started again. There have been many attempts to break BNP, but they could not be broken.” BNP’s politics are the politics of the people of this country. Those who say today that BNP does not want reforms have forgotten history. Our leaders went from village to village with 31 points. Mirza Fakhrul also mentioned that BNP was born through reforms.
BNP Secretary General said, Ziaur Rahman freed the country from the yoke of corruption and brought multi-party democracy to the country. We believe that reforms are an ongoing process. Reforms should be brought along with the needs of the people. We cannot allow anything to happen in the name of reforms that will disrupt our democracy.
