The Ministry of Public Administration is giving the opportunity to 267 candidates who were eliminated in the 43rd BCS to apply for reconsideration. If the applications are received, they will be screened again and gazetted.

This information was given in a notification signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Md. Ujjal Hossain on Thursday (January 2).

It said that the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) had recommended temporary nomination of 2,163 candidates for appointment to various cadres through the 43rd BCS examination on January 25 last year. In accordance with the provisions of Rule 4 of the BCS Recruitment Rules, 1981, after the pre-character verification of the candidates through the Special Branch of the Police and the District Administrators of the concerned districts, out of the 2,163 candidates recommended by them, a recruitment notification was issued on October 15 in favor of the remaining 2,64 candidates, excluding 40 who were absent in the health examination and 59 who were temporarily considered in the agency report.

But since the issuance of the notification, questions have been raised about the acceptability of this recruitment from various perspectives. The notification said that in order to determine candidates with a clean image above all criticism and to re-establish trust and confidence in the government recruitment process, it was decided to conduct further pre-character verification of all candidates through the state intelligence agencies NSI and DGFI. Reports on the suitability/unsuitability of 2,163 candidates were received from NSI and DGFI.

According to the report, 227 candidates were found to have negative comments on their past character. Due to negative comments, 227 candidates were temporarily considered unsuitable for appointment and it was decided to conduct further scrutiny and inquiry into their case. 40 people who were absent in the health examination were considered unsuitable for appointment. In this situation, out of the 2,163 candidates who received recommendations, 40 people who were absent in the health examination and 227 people who were temporarily unsuitable based on the intelligence agency report were excluded from the recruitment notification issued last Monday (December 30) in favor of the remaining 1,896 candidates.

In the meantime, any application for reconsideration among the 227 people who were temporarily unsuitable for appointment is being accepted, the notification further said, adding that the opportunity to apply for reconsideration is open to everyone.
