679,000 pieces of blankets have been allocated from the Chief Advisor’s Relief Fund for distribution among the cold-stricken and distressed people to combat the ongoing winter. At the same time, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated 33 crore 87 lakh 50 thousand taka for 495 upazilas and all municipalities in 64 districts of the country to buy blankets.
This information was given in a press release from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief on Friday.
The release stated that these funds were allocated for the distribution of winter clothes among the cold-stricken people of 495 upazilas and all municipalities in 64 districts of the country’s eight divisions. At the beginning of winter, the ministry distributed 15,250 pieces of blankets to be distributed among the cold-stricken people in 14 districts of the northern part of the country.
It was informed that the Upazila Executive Officers under the jurisdiction of the Deputy Commissioners have already started purchasing blankets on an emergency basis and distributing them among the needy by properly following all the relevant financial rules and regulations in distributing the blankets allocated from the Chief Advisor’s Relief Fund and purchasing them with the money allocated from the Ministry.
The notification further informed that the Ministry has instructed the Deputy Commissioners to closely monitor the distribution and purchase of blankets.
