Doctors attacked, blockaded for not treating patients at Lab Aid in Habiganj

District Representative, Jewel Chowdhury from Habiganj //

Habiganj Sadar Hospital has become a haven for brokers. Now, along with employees and other brokers, doctors have also started brokering. When patients come to the hospital with minor injuries or illnesses, they are sent to some of the city’s renowned private hospitals on different pretexts. After going there, a business of cutting throats is carried out in the name of treatment. One such incident happened yesterday at Lab Aid Hospital in the city.

The patient’s relatives attacked Doctor Gautam Baran Mistry for not performing the operation even though he was told to perform the operation at the Lab Aid Hospital in the Babystand area of the city instead of at the Sadar Hospital. At that time, the patient’s relatives became agitated and the traffic on the road stopped. This caused public suffering.

It is learned that Md. Kamrul Islam, son of Md. Shamsul Haque of Jalalabad village of Sadar upazila parishad, was involved in a motorcycle collision with a CNG on Lakhai road on Sunday morning while going to his office. He was seriously injured in the incident and people rescued him and admitted him to Habiganj Sadar Hospital. Orthopedic doctor Gautam Baran Mistry did not treat him there and said that for advanced treatment, he should be taken to Lab Aid Hospital. There, an operation will be performed. After going all day, at around 9 pm, he said that he did not have time, he could not operate and suggested sending the patient to Sylhet. The patient’s relatives got angry at this. They said that if the operation could not be performed, why did he keep the patient at Lab Aid Hospital all day? When they got agitated about this, hundreds of vehicles got stuck on the Baby Stand to Bus Stand road. People going for urgent work suffered due to this. Later, when the hospital authorities assured that they would look into the matter through arbitration, the situation normalized.
