The estimated time and place for the burial of former Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah have been announced.
The head of the Lebanese armed group’s Communication and Coordination Committee made the announcement on Sunday.
Hezbollah’s top official Wafiq Safa said that the burial ceremony of Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah will be held after the current 60-day ceasefire ends.
The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah is ongoing at the invitation and mediation of the Lebanese government. The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon came into effect on November 27 through international mediation. Accordingly, the 60-day ceasefire will end on January 25.
When Wafiq Safa made the announcement on Sunday, he was visiting the site of Hassan Nasrallah’s death, where he was assassinated by Israeli forces.
Speaking in the Beirut suburb of Dahiya, Safa confirmed that preparations were also underway for the burial of Nasrallah’s successor, Hashem Safieddine, who was killed a few days later.
Wafiq Safa warned that Hezbollah was ready to respond to any aggression it deemed necessary.
The Israeli occupation government killed Nasrallah in a heavy bomb attack on September 27, 2024, while he was in his underground office in the suburb of Dahiya. Hashem Safieddine was also killed after that.
A ceasefire is currently in place in southern Lebanon, which came into effect in late November. The ceasefire agreement was signed to end 13 months of fighting between Israel and the Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah.
However, the Lebanese government and Hezbollah have accused Israel of violating the agreement 379 times in 40 days.
At least 32 Lebanese were killed and 39 injured in these ceasefire violations by the Israeli army.
The UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon, UNIFIL, announced that Israeli troops used bulldozers to destroy a Lebanese army observation tower in the southern border area of ‘Al-Labun’ after violating the ceasefire.
UNIFIL also said that Israeli troops deliberately destroyed UN forces and Lebanese army installations, which is a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. Source: Mehr News Agency
