BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has left Dhaka to go to the UK for better treatment. She left the capital’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 11:15 pm on Tuesday (January 7). The vehicle carrying her reached there at 10:45 pm. Later, after completing all the immigration work, the former prime minister left for London in a special air ambulance sent by the Emir of Qatar.

Earlier, Khaleda Zia left her Gulshan residence ‘Firoza’ at around 8:15 pm. A large number of leaders and activists gathered on the road from Gulshan to the airport surrounding her foreign trip. As a result, the vehicle carrying her had to push the crowd and move forward at a great speed. It took about two and a half hours to cross.

BNP workers and supporters started gathering on the streets of Dhaka since the afternoon of that day. Leaders and activists flocked to the airport road from Gulshan to bid farewell to the leader. Thousands of leaders and activists gathered along the way. They expect that Begum Zia will return to the country’s politics after recovering.

Security has been tightened at the airport surrounding Khaleda Zia’s foreign trip. From there, she will reach London via Doha. Later, she will be admitted directly to the clinic. On the way, she will meet her son Tarique Rahman after a long 7 years.

There is ‘relief’ within and outside the party about Khaleda Zia’s foreign trip. There is also ‘anxiety and concern’. On August 5, Awami League President and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left for India in the mass uprising of students and the public.

This time, Khaleda Zia is going to London. Various judgments and analyses are being conducted among political leaders, activists and supporters about what kind of situation the ‘absence’ of the two top leaders could create.

BNP Chairperson’s personal physician and party standing committee member AZM Zahid Hossain said that Khaleda Zia will be admitted to the London clinic. He will go directly to the hospital from the airport. The doctors will examine him there. Further decisions will be taken on their (doctors’) advice.
