British Minister Tulip Siddique is under immense pressure for accepting a flat as a gift from a close associate of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and concealing the information. The country’s opposition party has demanded her resignation from the ministry. In the meantime, renowned economist and chief advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has commented on Tulip Siddique, who is accused of corruption.

He told the influential media outlet The Sunday Times that the London flat that Tulip Siddique is using should be properly investigated. If the investigation reveals that she got it illegally or through ‘robbery’, then the flat should be returned to the Bangladesh government, he said.

On the other hand, the leader of the country’s main opposition Conservative Party, Kimmy Badenoch, has urged Prime Minister Keir Starmer to sack Tulip Siddique. He said, Keir Starmer! It is time to sack Tulip Siddique. She also said that Prime Minister Keir Starmer has appointed his personal friend as anti-corruption minister and that he has himself been accused of corruption.

Tulip Siddique is a member of Britain’s ruling Labour cabinet, serving as Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister. Her job is to tackle corruption within the UK’s financial markets. But she is now under investigation in her native Bangladesh, where she and four family members are accused of embezzling about $4 billion from a nuclear power plant.

Tulip Siddique, however, has denied any involvement in any kind of corruption and has called for an investigation into her by Laurie Magnus, the UK Prime Minister’s Independent Advisor on Ministerial Standards.
